School Student Work Experience
We are pleased to offer work experience placements to enthusiastic students aged 16 years and above.
Our well-equipped hospital facilitates the veterinary team to implement advanced surgical and medical techniques, in addition to essential holistic approaches to the patient, delivered by our skilled team of Veterinary Surgeons and Veterinary Nurses. Due to the nature of our busy mixed animal practice a wide variety of case investigations can be observed by the student. However, due to the risks when working alongside large animals, the student will only be permitted to observe such work within the hospital premises.
We offer one week block work experience placements, providing the student with a broad overview of the work of both a Veterinary Surgeon and a Veterinary Nurse. Unfortunately, due to the high demand of veterinary student placements we cannot offer school work experience. This includes year 9, 10 and 11 students. However, we can appreciate that all students wishing to pursue a career within the veterinary industry will require evidence of veterinary related work experience to support their application to university.
The roles of the student throughout their week of experience involve procedure observation and assisting kennel staff and theatre assistance. Areas in which the student will be observing include theatre, consultations, kennels and some on-site large animal and equine procedures.
We ask all students wishing to apply for work experience to complete the work experience application form and return this either via email to email@example.com, by fax on 01785 716062 or simply by handing in at main reception.
All successful students will be expected to work a week placement from Monday to Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm. You will need to wear smart work attire (no light coloured jeans, tracksuits, joggers or brightly logoed t-shirts), flat comfortable shoes are recommended and long hair must be tied back. Visible facial piercings must be removed during the week of experience.
If you are unsure which veterinary path to take, for more information on both becoming a Veterinary Surgeon or a Veterinary Nurse please see:
If you unsuccessful in gaining a work experience placement within our hospital, please do not be put off.
