Craig McCreath MRCVS
DirectorThe longest standing partner, Craig joined the practice in 1979 fresh from Glasgow University and entered the partnership in 1982. A very experienced surgeon with a special interest in orthopaedics, he also continues to enjoy his pet animal clinics, farm and horse rounds. Outside of work, Craig’s hobbies include playing football, drumming and breeding and showing Hereford cattle.
Stephen Woodcock MRCVS
DirectorJoining the practice in 1990 was something of a homecoming for Steve originally hailing from Stoke. He had spent 6 years in mixed practice in Lincolnshire. Particularly interested in cattle health and preventative medicine, Steve joined the partnership in 1993.
A keen charity runner, Steve has completed the London Marathon five times (so far!) and also enjoys skiing and mountaineering in the Alps.
Mark Mincher-Lockett MRCVS
DirectorHaving joined the practice straight from Liverpool University in 2001, Mark took a 6 month sabbatical in New Zealand where he worked as a cattle vet. Mark returned to the practice and joined the partnership in 2006, bringing to the table keen interests in orthopaedics and fracture management alongside cattle health and production.
Mark, along with his wife Natalie, enjoys horse riding and skiing.
Dave Gowan MRCVS
DirectorDave, originally from Northern Ireland, studied at London University before joining the practice in 2003 and subsequently becoming a director in 2019. Dave is a keen all-rounder enjoying farm, equine and pet animal practice. He has particular interests in small animal and equine medicine.
Dave and his wife, Sophy, enjoy travelling, cars, biking, walking and good food and drink.
John Scotton MRCVS
DirectorOriginally from Brewood, John was a foster student of the practice. Upon graduating from Bristol University in 2002 he joined the Straiton's team formally, and has become a director of the company in 2019. John’s particular interests lie in the fields of pet animal and horse medicine, and in wound repair.
John and his wife Jo enjoy horse riding, winter sports, sailing and travelling.
Steve Foster MRCVS
Junior PartnerBorn and bred in Stoke, Steve studied at Liverpool University where he was a housemate of Mark. Following graduation, Steve spent 5 years in mixed practice in the Staffordshire Moorlands before becoming a much-welcomed addition to the team in 2006. He continues to utilise his skills and experience, particularly in farm and pet animal fields. You will see him mostly at our Rugeley branch.
Steve was a welcome addition to the Partnership in 2010.
He is a keen all round sportsman (when not injured!) and a DIY enthusiast.
Lewis Johnson MRCVS
Junior PartnerLewis joined the Practice in July 2010 having graduated from Liverpool University in the same year. Lewis hails from Kent where he grew up surrounded by animals great and small on his grandfather's farm. He has a particular interest in equine medicine and completed an elective equine studies at the Philip Leverhulme Equine Hospital based at Leahurst. Lewis is equally at ease treating small animals, particularly rabbit medicine and surgery.
Lewis is a keen sportsman playing rugby and hockey. He also enjoys karaoke given the chance!
Ed Shackel MRCVS
Assistant Veterinary SurgeonEd graduated from the University of Bristol in 2015 and joined the team at Straiton's shortly after. He spends his time equally split between equine and small animal.
Ed is married to his lovely wife, Lizzie, with his rescue dog called Minnie and cat, Ursa. In his spare time, Ed loves to walk in the Peak District and can occasionally be seen as a guest appearance at Wheaton Aston and Penkridge Rugby Club!
Kaitlin Mapplethorpe MRCVS
Assistant Veterinary SurgeonOriginally from Lincolnshire, Kaitlin graduated from Nottingham University in 2018, and joined us a few months later. She has a keen interest in all areas of veterinary, especially soft tissue surgery.
Outside of the practice, Kaitlin enjoys walking with her friends and dogs, as well as going to the gym and partaking in triathlons.
Ollie Dimmock MRCVS
Assistant Veterinary SurgeonOllie joined Straitons in 2018 and has since been enjoying all aspects of mixed pratice. Having left the midlands to qualify from Liverpool University, Ollie decided to return to begin his career closer to home. He has a particular interest in small animal orthopaedics and equine medicine.
Outside of work Ollie is a keen musician, football fan, and plays regularly. Having recently completed the Stafford Half Marathon with some of our other vets, you may well see him out on a run!
Ben Vangucci MRCVS
Assistant Veterinary SurgeonBen qualified from the RVC in 2018, and joined us at the end of 2019 from South Wales. He has a strong interest in farm fertility, and will be seen in all areas of the practice.
A keen sportsman and previously a semi-professional footballer, he'll be sure not to miss a trick.
Jim Hanley MRCVS
Assistant Veterinary SurgeonJim joined us from Nottingham University after graduating in 2020. Having agriculture and pigs at home, he has hands on experience in the farming side and is keen to be out on farms. Jim is excited to start his career with us here, and enjoys all aspects of veterinary work.
A keen golfer and rugby player, when not at work he'd be found on the 18th hole!
Monique Marino RVN
Head Veterinary NurseMonique joined the practice in 2013, she graduated at Harper Adams University in 2008 after completing a Bsc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management. Following Graduation Monique has spent time in veterinary practices and referral Centre here in Staffordshire. She advanced to head nurse in 2017 and enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing.
She has a Ginger cat called Toby and outside of work Monique enjoys swimming and baking with her daughter, Amelia.
Nicky Sheldon RVN
Deputy Head Veterinary NurseNicky joined the team in May 1999 and qualified in 2002. She is our deputy head nurse and is heavily involved in assessing student veterinary nurses. She is our deputy head nurse and enjoys all areas of nursing, especially supporting and teaching our students.
Nicky is very sociable out of work and loves to spend time with her family and animals.
Sam Layton FDSc RVN Dip AVN
Senior Veterinary NurseSam started as a student here from Harper Adams University in 2012 and then decided to stay as she qualified with a Foundation Degree in Veterinary Nursing in 2013. Since qualifying, Sam has obtained a highly respected diploma in Advanced Veterinary Nursing. She has a keen interested in chemotherapy.
Sam lives at home with her other half, her cat, Duchess, and her dog, Onyx - who is an honourary member of the Straitons family!
Leah Cane RVN NCert (E&CC)
Senior Veterinary NurseLeah first joined the practice in 2006 as a kennel assistant and has since achieved her Veterinary Nurse qualification and a certificate in emergency and critical care. Her interests lie with all aspects of emergency medicine and surgery.
Leah is always doing something in her spare time with her family and little girl, Isabella, and is probably an expert in all you need to know for Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland!!
Lucy Plant RVN
Senior Veterinary NurseLucy is one of our senior qualified nurses having been with the practice since 2004. She has also completed a qualification in Companion Animal Behaviour and runs behaviour clinics here at the practice. As well as behaviour consults, Lucy also runs successful weight clinics and has a keen interest in educating clients.
Lucy is currently on maternity leave after giving birth to her little boy, Arlo.
Emily Angell-Parsons RVN
Senior Veterinary NurseEmily has been nursing for 18 years! She qualified in 2008 and joined Straitons in 2017. Emily loves emergency, critical care and anaesthesia as well as nurse clinics and behaviour. She is always keen to learn and expand her ever growing knowledge.
Emily has 3 young children at home, and along with her husband, enjoys to go camping as a family - definitely not leaving behind her very characteristic (and one of a kind!) little Chihuahua, Larry.
Nicky Weitendorf RVN APVN NCert (Animal Behaviour)
Veterinary NurseNicky grew up in South Africa and Botswana before moving to the UK 6 years ago with her 2 sons. She started her career in wildlife conservation and management actively involved in rehabilitation, game capture, game farm management and veterinary care. Nicky then joined a community veterinary clinic providing services to the less fortunate in South Africa- offering neutering and vaccination campaigns.
Nicky obtained her Level 3 Veterinary Nursing qualification in the UK and joined Straitons in March 2017. She has further qualifications in wildlife conservation, animal behaviour and an advance programme in veterinary nursing wildlife and avian. She is in charge of all things laboratory and runs animal behaviour clinics here at the practice.
In her spare time, Nicky rides her mountain bike with her 2 staffies in tow, Jock and Savanna. She enjoys swimming and holidays in the sunshine!
Nicki Wilson BSc(Hons) VPAC RVN
Veterinary NurseNicki was a student at Straitons in the summers of 2015 and 2016 and returned as a qualified in July 2017. Her main love lies in theatre, particularly anaesthesia, and is currently working towards her advanced certificate in this area.
Nicki has two gorgeous dogs at home, Tarka and Kiwi. She loves going to the beach and days out.
Claire Scerri RVN
Veterinary NurseClaire joined the practice in September 2013 as a kennel assistant. She graduated at Harper Adams University in 2013 after completing a FdSc Animal Management and Welfare degree and obtained her veterinary nurse qualification in 2018. Claire's main interest lies in medical nursing and patient care. She has a particular love for cats and small furries.
Claire has 2 rabbits, Holly and Archie, and 3 guinea pigs, Mable, Maggie and Mavis. Out of work, Claire loves spending time with her family and her husband, James. She also loves a good boxset or two!
Tori Ireson RVN
Veterinary NurseTori joined us as a receptionist in 2014 before starting her training in Veterinary Nursing at Rodbaston in January 2016. Tori qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in August 2018. She has a keen interest in emergency and critical care.
Tori loves going out on walks with her four dogs (and their friends!), riding her horse, Maddie, socialising with friends and catching some sun on holiday!
Kim Douce RVN
Veterinary NurseKim joined Straitons in 2015 as a kennel assistant and successfully gained her qualification in Veterinary Nursing in August 2019. Kim also has a qualification in BTEC Animal Management and an honours degree in animal conservation and biology! She has a particular interest in reptiles.
She is very sociable in her spare time and enjoys spending time with her gorgeous cat, Livy!
Zoe Roberts BSc(Hons) RVN VPAC C-SQP
Veterinary NurseZoe joined Straitons in 2014 as a student from Harper Adams University where she completed her FdSc in Veterinary Nursing, BSc (Hons) in Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management top-up qualifications. She also has a certificate in veterinary practice administration and her C-SQP qualification. She remained at Straitons after graduating, and after a short period at our Rugeley branch, is now working back at Penkridge.
She has a keen interest in all aspects of nursing- especially weight management and dental oral care- having completed further training in these areas.
Zoe is always wandering around Cannock Chase with her dog, Brandy.

Gemma Crooke RVN
Veterinary Nurse, RugeleyGemma qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in February 2013 and is our sole RVN at our Rugeley branch! Gemma has re-joined Straitons in May 2019 and loves being back, greeting all your lovely pets at Rugeley. Gemma loves a good challenge and all aspects of nursing.
In her free time, Gemma practices Yoga and meditation, and loves keeping active by going on scenic walks and swimming. She loves to bake, especially gingerbread biscuits and ginger cake! Gemma also enjoys mini breaks to Cumbria, Snowdonia and the Peak district. All this aside, Gemma is completely devoted to her cat, Mowgli.
Lucy Powell BA(Hons) RVN
Veterinary Night NurseLucy started working as a Veterinary Nurse at Straitons in December 2016 as a locum. She joined the practice full time in July 2017 as a Night Nurse. Lucy has a keen interest in nutrition and medical nursing and has recently obtained a Merit Award in Medical Nursing. She has a special fondness of bunnies and labradors but loves nothing more than caring for patients hospitalised overnight and understanding their requirements.
Lucy has an array of rescued animals at home, two labradors - Maggie and Lexie, a special (ex-feral) cat named Gizzy, two bunnies, a guinea-pig, three birds and two chickens! When animals aren't ruling her life, she loves watching football and is a Boyzone and Disney enthusiast!
Chloe Davies RVN
Veterinary Night NurseChloe qualified as a Veterinary Nurse in 2012. She is one of our night nurses here at Straitons. She likes emergency and critical care.
Chloe is kept busy at home with her two children, Rowan and Aubree, and Chow Chow, Kobi.
Student Veterinary NurseGeorgie joined Straitons in 2016 as a kennel assistant and has since progressed as a veterinary care assistant and is currently training towards her veterinary nursing qualification. Her main interests are anaesthesia and nurse clinics.
Georgie was brought up on a dairy farm and has recently taken up - and very good at - snowboarding. She is a strong love of food and a reality show or two!
Hollie Hill BSc(Hons)
Student Veterinary NurseHollie studied for 3 years at Liverpool John Moores University, coming away with a 2:1 in Bsc (Hons) Animal Behaviour. She joined Straitons as a kennel assistant in 2017 and has progressed as a veterinary care assistant and is currently studying towards her veterinary nursing. She has a keen interest in medical nursing, patient care and enjoys working in the kennels area.
Hollie plays tennis to a high level outside of work and tries to have her two relatively naughty Beagles, Molly and Milo, under control. Her greatest love is One Direction and Hollie still can't fathom their split!
Student Veterinary NurseJo is currently training towards her Veterinary Nurse qualification at Bottle Green. Jo is an all rounder and enjoys theatre work and nursing patients in kennels.
Jo has two dogs, Timmy and Mercy. Jo loves spending time with her friends, and has a strange soft spot for Justin Bieber!
Student Veterinary NurseRachel joined Straitons in January 2017 and has since completed her VCA qualification. She is now working towards her Level 3 Veterinary Nursing qualification. She enjoys all areas of animal care.
Rachel loves walking and spending time with her dogs and has recently started going to yoga classes! She can also quote pretty much every episode of 'Friends' word for word!

Student Veterinary NurseCharlotte joined Straitons in August 2018 and aspires to be a Veterinary Nurse. She starts her qualification in January! Charlotte has a degree in equine science and a diploma in horse management. Charlotte enjoys all aspects of her job.
Charlotte lives with her cat, Luna, and little Sprocker called, Stanley. She also has a horse called, Alfie, and enjoys all things horsey in her spare time. Charlotte loves to watch Rugby and has a soft spot for George Ford!
Victoria Stoneman BA(Hons) PGCE QTS
Student Veterinary NurseVicy hails from Southend on Sea, previously working as a primary school teacher! She worked in Cirencester as a veterinary receptionist before joining Straitons as a veterinary care assistant in late 2018. She is enjoying all areas of her work, especially working with felines!
Vicky has a hamster called Zangief, a gecko called Albert, and a cat called Asterin! She likes reading, photography and swimming.

Veterinary Care AssistantSophie joined Straitons in July 2018 and aspires to be a Veterinary Nurse. She has Level 2 Animal Care and Level 3 Equine Management qualifications. She enjoys all areas of her job but loves working in the theatre environment and with our equine patients. Sophie strives to learn new things and is always asking questions!
Sophie lives on a farm with her two dogs, Belle and Scruff, and a 28 year old Shetland pony, Mikey. She spends most her time riding horses, helping out on the farm and likes to go clay pigeon shooting. Sophie also, impressively, has a Level 3 qualification in British Sign Language!

Equine TechnicianEllia joined us in November 2018 as a Veterinary Equine Technician. She aspires to become a Veterinary Nurse. Ellia is loving working with animals and providing assistance to all the nurses and vets here at the practice.
She has a horse and three dogs keeping her busy, enjoying long walks on the beach!

Jenny Hodgkins RVN
Head of Reception TeamJenny joined the team in 1986, qualifying as a veterinary nurse in 1990. Having taken some time off to raise her family, Jenny has returned to the Practice and now heads up reception, in addition to being responsible for small animal insurance queries.
Most of her free time is spent with her family and dog 'Scooby'.
Receptionist, PenkridgeThe first face you’ll see behind the reception desk at the Penkridge hospital, Suzanne has been a member of the team since 2000.
In her spare time she enjoys socialising and travelling.
Receptionist, PenkridgeDonna started at Straitons in 2009 as a kennel assistant. She worked in this role for a couple of years before heading over to reception. She enjoys greeting clients, old and new, and all of their pets.
Donna loves to take walks with her husky, Heidi. She has also started moutain biking and enjoys socialising with her family and friends. Donna also loves to pick up a good book.
Receptionist, PenkridgeBelinda joined Straitons in 2009 as one our receptionists. She works most mornings at our Penkridge branch.
Belinda has two dogs, Charlie the Jack Russell, and Ted the Border Terrier. She enjoys cooking, dining out and is partial to reading a thriller.
Receptionist, RugeleyLaura is the smiling face that greets you at our Rugeley branch everyday! She joined us in April 2016 as a receptionist and is currently studying to gain her C-SQP qualification. Laura enjoys greeting clients and their pets when they arrive at the practice.
In her time away from work, Laura loves travelling and exploring different countries with her husband. She has two gorgeous Siamese tabby's, Nina and Perry.
